Nicole Messink, LAC

Nicole Messink is a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) through the State of New Jersey. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Master's of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Monmouth University. She has completed Gottman Couples Therapy Level 1 Training, and is interested in becoming a Certified Gottman Therapist in the future.

Nicole has experience working as a phone counselor for a call helpline and a clinician in an outpatient setting. She has worked with children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples experiencing a wide variety of issues. She takes an eclectic viewpoint towards counseling, using a combination of evidence-based treatment modalities such as CBT, DBT, person-centered therapy, and mindfulness/spiritually charged interventions. She has a strengths-based perspective and modifies her therapeutic approach based on her clients' needs.

Nicole strongly emphasizes the importance of self-care with her clients. She believes that people cannot pour from an empty cup, and must take time to recharge their mental batteries through activities that provide pleasure and fulfillment. She engages in self-care through yoga, hiking, tarot, spending time with loved ones, journaling, and paddle-boarding. She acknowledges the therapeutic role of nature and tries to spend time outdoors at least once a day.
