Amie Carlon is a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) in the state of New Jersey and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). She received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology through The University of Maryland. From there, she completed her Masters of Art in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the accredited program at Rider University.
Amie has experience working with clients of ages ranging from early adolescence as young as 7 years old to clients in late adulthood with diagnoses ranging from anxiety and ADHD to depression and PTSD. Amie has attained a certificate in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) for early childhood trauma intervention, focusing on modifying distorted thinking and resulting behaviors. She enjoys working within the Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) scope, using mindfulness and sharing tools for restructuring cognitive distortions and reshaping core beliefs.
Amie also uses a person-centered approach, understanding the importance of unconditional positive regard and a healthy therapeutic relationship for building comfort and trust with clients. She uses empathy and feelings-validation as well as meditation, relaxation, and breathing practices along with talk therapy to create a calming space for clients. She finds that good rapport is the most important piece of creating safety for the client to incite and maintain change.
